Dental implants have changed tooth substitutes since they were introduced more than thirty years ago. Due to its durability, the success rate of dental implants is high, exceeding 95%. However, like any surgery, dental implants carry some health risks, although problems are rare.

1. Infectious diseases.

Dental implant is a kind of oral surgical treatment that strictly adheres to the skills and methods of the dentist. If the dentist and instruments are not properly disinfected, it is easy to cause infection. The patient should go to a professional dental hospital to treat the infection as soon as possible.

2. Numbness in the lips.

There are some nerves under the alveolar bone, called the inferior alveolar nerve. When performing an osteotomy, the dentist should be very careful not to injure the nerves. If the implant is placed on the front of the nerve or just on the nerve, the patient will feel numbness in the lower lip. To solve this problem, the implant should be removed and replaced in another location.

3. The incision is split.

The incision suture is too loose or too tight will lead to the possibility of cracking. When the oral hygiene is poor, the infection rate is high and it is easy to cause the incision to split. The solution to this problem is to clean the incision and re-suturing it as soon as possible.

4. Excessive bleeding.

Although dental implants are a minimally invasive procedure, when the implant screw is placed in the tissue and a blood clot forms, it may cause local bleeding. This situation often occurs, and cold compresses can be applied early. There is another bleeding situation that requires caution. If the dentist is not skilled and experienced, the periodontal tissue will be injured, causing mucosal or subcutaneous bleeding.

5. Gum hyperplasia.

This is a complication caused by improper placement of the implant root and poor connection between the implant root and the bridge. These can lead to poor hygiene and chronic inflammation, leading to gum proliferation.

Although it is impossible to eliminate all risks, the chances of successful implantation can be improved by choosing a professional dental hospital and treatment by an experienced dentist.
